Back to School with Amy McCready

Did you enjoy watching parenting expert Amy McCready, share her back to school tips?  Here is a little more information on the topics she discussed and where to find even more information.

ORGANIZATION

First of all, kids have a ton of after school activities that keep them busy, and trying to keep them organized can be a challenge. A good idea is to create “calendar central”, a designated place where all family calendars and schedules are located. You can track after school activities, school programs and lunches and even chores. Think of it as a one-stop shop for family time management.

SAFETY
eSecureIf you’re an on-the-go parent of an older child and want an easy way to check up on them, check out Protection 1′s eSecure. With this security system, parents can get instant text messages or emails sent right to their smartphone or computer when their child arrives home from school. Parents have the option to remotely arm or disarm the system for their child or after-school babysitter, and, if they want to make sure the kids are behaving and getting their work done, they can have video shots sent to a smart phone or laptop. eSecure can also send alerts if smoke or elevated carbon-monoxide levels are detected, a pipe bursts or the power goes out.  For more information, go to www.protection1.com

LUNCHES AND CLEANING

It’s important to plan meals a week at a time. While proper nutrition is key, don’t forget to include disposable containers, hand sanitizer and – you may not think of this – a paper towel that can be used both wet and dry. Brawny® towels are great for tough cleaning challenges, and have increased strength when wet so your child can leave the lunch area just as clean as they found it. They can also be a great aid for moms to get surfaces clean quickly, so they can get back to their busy schedules.  And now’s a good time to stock up! Brawny towels come in large role size packs: “Big & Giant” roll items and new “Mega” roll size.  Just check out the Brawny Man on Facebook and Twitter and look out for giveaways and product promotions this fall.

SUPPLIES
bicAs you know, all that back to school shopping can be overwhelming. But luckily, your child’s school usually sends out a detailed list of required school supplies . This includes everything from notebooks, paper and scissors to crayons. So when you stock up on those school supplies, buy in bulk and make sure you include things that can double for use in your home. For example, notebooks, paper, pencils and reliable pens are a necessity year round. Bic Atlantis Ball Pens feature Easy-Glide System Ink Technology, and it provides a great writing experience that is up to 35% smoother writing compared to traditional BIC ball pen ink systems.  You can learn more about it at www.bicworldusa.com

MISCELLANEOUS

Here are even more tips to make the back to school experience as smooth as possible:

  1. Make sure to separate needs from wants before you go shopping. Ask your child what’s most important for them. Maybe it is a new backpack, lunchbox or pair of shoes.
  2. Create an after school routine and include snack time.
  3. Make sure you check all medical requirements and updates.
  4. Visit the school website or call for a list of required school supplies.
  5. Review the school dress code before shopping for clothes and accessories.
  6. Find out whether your child’s teacher prefers to communicate by phone, email or written note.
  7. Know what your child is expected to learn in his/her grade level.
  8. Read the school handbook and make sure your child understands the rules.
  9. Mark school events on the family calendar.

10.  Most importantly, discuss your child’s feelings about starting school and talk over any concerns.

Here’s to a great school year!
